Special COLA Available | Reserve Info Meetings (Jul 16, 2019)

September 2019 One & Six Month Special COLA Program

Inflight Scheduling has determined that there will be an opportunity to award One-month & Six-month Special COLAs (Company Offered Leave of Absence) effective for the September 2019 bid month. The number of Special COLAs awarded has not yet been determined.

All Flight Attendants in the Inflight Services Administration System who are projected to be active for the September 2019 Bid Month will be eligible to participate in the Special COLA program.

Bids Open: Tuesday, July 16, 2019
Bids Close: Thursday August 8, 2019 at 0800 Central Time
Awards Posted: Before August 12, 2019

If you have a CQ due month during the duration of your six month COLA, you are expected to attend CQ while on the six month COLA. If your CQ due month is September, October, November, December or January , you are expected to attend CQ. If you have a February CQ due month, you may attend CQ in March when you return to work. To get scheduled for CQ while on six month COLA, contact the FAST team beginning on the 23rd of the month prior to the month you wish to attend. If you are in your due month or grace month while on COLA and do not get scheduled, you will be assigned CQ beginning on the sixth day of the month you are to attend. Contact the FAST team at 1 800 FLT LINE (option 4, 2) to be scheduled for CQ training.

Pay and Vacation longevity steps will not be impacted for the duration of this Special COLA.

Flight Attendants on the Special COLA will be eligible to participate in 2020 vacation bidding.

A Special COLA is a reducible Leave of Absence. For each thirty (30) days or major portion thereof where you are on a Special COLA, vacation accrual will be reduced by one-twelfth (1/12).

Health and Welfare Benefits
Flight Attendants on Special COLA will be eligible to maintain their health and welfare coverage at the active employee contribution rate for the duration of the Special COLA.

While on the Special COLA, payroll deductions will not be made for these benefits and will accumulate for up to 2 months and an amount of $750.00. Once the accumulation reaches $750.00 AND no deductions can be taken for 2 months, the premium balance will be sent for direct billing by the United Airlines Benefits Center. i.e., When the Flight Attendant does not earn pay or enough pay and deductions cannot be made from a $0.00 paycheck, payroll will accumulate a past due balance up to $750.00 and at least 2 months of premiums. If the Flight Attendant still does not receive a paycheck or enough pay for benefits deductions, the past due balance and future benefit premiums will move to the UABC for direct billing until the employee begins receiving a paycheck. If the Flight Attendant returns to work prior to reaching $750.00 and at least 2 months of missed deductions, the accumulated deductions will be applied to the first paycheck which could result in a zero dollar paycheck. Flight Attendants who signed up for the new voluntary benefits (Long Term Care, Auto/Home, Identity Theft, and Pet Insurance), will be directly billed after missing 3 paychecks and will receive communications on how to pay for their benefits directly.

Reserve Info Meetings

Dear LAX Reserves:

Your voice is being heard.  We want to support you in every way possible.

Your AFA Council 12 Reserve Committee will be collaborating with LAXSW Base Management to conduct four Reserve Info Sessions in the month of July.  These meetings are designed to help Reserves understand the Reserve Preferencing system and other basic components of our new reserve system.  We also want to answer your questions and listen to your concerns, so please join us in our effort to hear your voice.

Save the dates:

July 8, 11, 22, &  25

We plan to have a 9am and 1pm session on each day.  Each meeting will be held in one of the two domicile conference rooms.

Light Snacks will be provided!  Bring your questions and enthusiasm!

Please email us with your Questions and Hot Topics so we may compile answers and discuss at the Info Sessions.  In the subject of the email, please write "Reserve Info Sessions".  Send all correspondence to afalax@unitedafa.org and Cc: Reserve@afalax.org.

Where There Is Unity, We All Find Strength!
