Mexico City - 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake on September 19, 2017

Date: September 19, 2017

Earlier today the Mexico City airport closed due to a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. During the closure period, inbound flights were diverted and all UA departures from the US were delayed until an infrastructure assessment was completed

Network operations advises that all crews at layover hotels have been accounted for and are reported to be safe.   For a time, hotels were evacuated for structural checks and these buildings have been cleared to allow all guests to go back into the hotels at this time. MEX Airport has re-opened and UA is resuming operations. The one flight which had an air return to IAH will depart again and one ORD/MEX which diverted to IAH will continue to MEX. No additional cancellations are projected at this time. Terminal One which UA operates out of has had no damage. Terminal Two has some damage. Expect residual delays due to the event.
